Terms of Use
The ground rules for joincasaic.com and CASAIC membership.
Last updated: August 29, 2026
What CASAIC Is (and Isn't)
CASAIC is an informal, volunteer-run professional network for California educators interested in the responsible use of AI in schools. It is not a corporation, nonprofit, or government body, and nothing on this site should be read as implying official status. References to "CASAIC," "we," or "us" mean the operator of joincasaic.com (the "Site") and its volunteers. CASAIC is independent of the California Department of Education, every school district, and the New York consortium (NYSAIC) whose work inspired ours.
Agreement
By using the Site or holding a membership, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Site.
Membership
- Membership is free, granted and revocable at our sole discretion, and intended for people working in or with California K-12 education.
- Membership creates no partnership, agency, employment, fiduciary, or ownership relationship with CASAIC or its operator. Members speak for themselves, not for CASAIC.
- Provide accurate information, keep your account to yourself, and don't share credentials.
Acceptable Use
Don't use the Site unlawfully or in violation of school or district policy; don't submit student personal information anywhere on the Site; don't scrape, harvest, or redistribute directory information or use it for solicitation; don't upload harassing, defamatory, infringing, or malicious content; don't attempt unauthorized access.
Your Content
You own what you share and are responsible for it. By sharing it through the Site you grant us a non-exclusive license to display it to members (or publicly, if you designate it a public resource). Share only what you have the right to share.
Member Interactions
We don't vet members or supervise what they do with each other. Interactions with other members — online or off — are at your own risk.
Nothing Here Is Professional Advice
Everything on the Site — sample policies, guidance, position papers, member posts — is shared for information and professional development only. It is not legal advice. Consult your own counsel and follow your own governance processes before adopting anything.
Third-Party Links & Services
We link to resources we find useful and rely on third-party services to run the Site. We don't control them and aren't responsible for them.
No Warranties
The Site is provided "as is" and "as available," with no warranties of any kind, express or implied. We may change, suspend, or shut down the Site — or any feature or membership — at any time, without notice or liability.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, CASAIC, its operator, and its volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or reputational harm, arising from the Site or your reliance on anything found on it. If liability is nonetheless imposed, our total aggregate liability is limited to one hundred dollars ($100) or the amount you paid to use the Site (currently zero), whichever is greater.
Indemnification
You agree to defend and hold harmless CASAIC, its operator, and its volunteers from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from content you submit, your use of the Site, or your violation of these Terms.
Name & Logo
The CASAIC name and logo may not be used without written permission.
Termination
We may suspend or end your access at any time for any conduct we believe harms the community or violates these Terms. You may leave at any time by contacting us.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by California law, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located in California.
Changes
We may update these Terms; the date above reflects the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
